Shannon MacMichael, owner and creator of Feelin’ PHAT Fitness

I’m Shannon MacMichael, owner and creator of Feelin’ PHAT Fitness. I’m a mom of two amazing little boys, a business owner, a dancer and a lover of life with a passion for fitness and adding too much to my plate

I’m a Newbury, NH native who danced her way through high school participating in tap, ballet, hip-hop and gymnastics. I joined the Champlain College dance team in Burlington, VT where I graduated in 2006 with a BS in Pre-Law. In 2005, my father unexpectedly passed away and I took over the family business, Noise “R” Us Fireworks, which I currently own and operate in Newport, NH. With the stress of losing my father, learning how to run a business and going to college, I literally added too much (food) to my plate and gained a few (ok, maybe more than a few) unwanted pounds.

I was lucky enough to find Zumba® Fitness in 2009 and completely fell in love!! I was dancing again and loving life! I decided to go for it and took the leap of becoming an instructor in 2010 and I’ve been teaching classes ever since. I’m licensed in Zumba Toning, Kids Zumba, Aqua Zumba, Zumba Step, STRONG by Zumba and PiYo Live. Zumba has been a total life changer for me, opening several doors and allowing me to meet thousands of wonderful people along the way!

I opened Feelin’ PHAT Fitness so I could create a judgment free space where people feel good and have fun while working out. I know firsthand what it’s like trying to juggle a million things (I type this as I my 3 month old beckons me) and not taking time for you. Taking the time to be selfish for one hour a day has been so important in keeping my mind, body and soul in check and it is my goal to share that with others!

Stephanie Singer

Stephanie began her career in movement at the age of 13, when she was invited to attend the National Academy of Arts in Champaign Ill, where she studied ballet on scholarship during her high school years. Her dance background led her to develop a lifelong love of exercise and fitness activities.

Stephanie discovered Pilates after a lower back injury prevented her from being able to complete a half-marathon after months of training; she learned that years of reinforcing muscle imbalances and core weaknesses caused the debilitating injury. Stephanie attributes Pilates to her return to exercise, and is passionate about encouraging others to develop a strong physical foundation so they can continue pursuing the activities they love as they age.

Stephanie earned her Pilates Equipment and Mat certifications in rehabilitation and conditioning exercise through DK Body Balancing which is affiliated with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and is trained in the Total Barre Method through Stott Pilates. She recently relocated from Danville, VT to Sunapee, NH her home where she resides with her husband, two children and their golden retriever.

Gina Grace

She has also recently taken up cycling. Gina is excited to begin teaching body sculpting class and looking forward to the new adventure!

Kristina Lafiosca

Kristina loves yoga. She has been practicing for 10 years, experimenting with various styles along the way. She is continuously amazed by the energy, inspiration, and clarity discovered every time she steps on to her mat.

A graduate of FlyDog Yoga and 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher, Kristina has studied under Eliza Whiteman, among other phenomenal instructors. Kristina teaches a challenging Vinyasa class, fit for both beginner and advanced yogis. Her playful yet meditative classes are designed to cultivate presence and mindfulness through creatively sequenced movements with a steady emphasis on breath.

Kristina hopes you will return to class and asks that you both challenge and honor your body by making the practice your own with any modifications you would like. You can expect class to include supportive and enabling assists, laughter, and music, always.

Emily Hoar

Emily’s passion for fitness blossomed after graduating high school, with an eye towards playing lacrosse at the collegiate level. While the driving force behind her workouts began as a quest get stronger and more competitive on the field, she quickly became hooked on the feeling of what being active and committed can do for the mind and body.

As an instructor, Emily likes to keep things fun and constantly varied, making training sessions an event her clients look forward to each time. She is a firm believer in “functional fitness” and incorporates movements that are used in everyday life. Emily knows that there is never a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution to your fitness goals. She enjoys establishing a personal touch, making the workouts about you and your goals.

Emily is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and TRX certified. In addition, Emily coaches Women’s field hockey and lacrosse at near by Colby Sawyer College.

The Joes

We’re the Joes (I’m the younger one). We first met in a boxing gym about 6 years ago where this guy took me under his wing and trained me to be a lean, mean, fighting machine. We traveled up and down New England participating in competitive, armature boxing, me in the ring, him in my corner. In his own day, Joe, or Joe Skull as we call him, was a fighter in the city of Philadelphia with quite the record. We’ve hung our gloves up since then and are still active in the boxing world by teaching others. The upbeat pace and intensity of a boxing workout is fun and bound to yield results! All fitness levels are welcome! We’ve learned that the principles of boxing go far beyond sport and carry over into everyday life. We hope to share that with others.

Suzanne McLaughlin

A.K.A. “Zumba Sue” says, “My life took a very positive turn in 2009, when I attended one of Shannon’s Zumba classes with my daughter! I fell in love with Zumba! With a lot of support from my family, friends, and Shannon, in 2011 I became a licensed Zumba Gold Instructor, and I’ve not looked back! I’m super excited to join Shannon and the team at Feelin’ PHAT Fitness!”
Zumba Gold uses the same fun, international music as regular Zumba, but moves can be modified (or eliminated) for those who need to sit while exercising, those just beginning their fitness journey, those recovering/rehabbing from surgery, or those who are very active and fit. Zumba Sue can make modifications for almost anyone. In addition to being a licensed Zumba Instructor, she’s also a Certified Group Fitness Instructor through the American Council on Exercise, and is listed on the National Registry of Group Fitness Instructors. She’s also certified Adult/Child CPR/AED. Currently Zumba Sue is studying for both her Senior Fitness Specialty and her Orthopedic Exercise Specialty, both through the American Council on Exercise. While Zumba Sue focuses on maintaining/improving range of motion, balance, stamina and strength, she also loves to find fun little moves to help participants continue to be independent. Join her and wiggle, giggle and jiggle your way to better health and fitness!
